Cowboy Beans

A classic BBQ side that is delicious cooked on the EGG. This recipe uses Big Green Egg Sweet & Smoky Kansas City Style Barbecue Sauce and Big Green Egg Ancho Chile & Coffee Seasoning



  • 1/2 lbs (0.2 kg) bacon, diced 
  • 1 lb (0.5 kg) lean ground beef 
  • 1/2 cups (120 ml) yellow onion, diced 
  • 1/4 cups (60 ml) ketchup 
  • 1/4 cups (60 ml) Sweet & Smoky Kansas City Style Big Green Egg Barbecue Sauce 
  • 1/2 cups (120 ml) packed brown sugar 
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) molasses 
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) Big Green Egg Ancho Chile & Coffee Seasoning 
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) apple cider vinegar 
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt 
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) pepper 
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) yellow mustard 
  • (16 oz. (457 g)) can pork and beans 
  • (16 oz. (457 g)) can butter beans, drained 
  • (16 oz. (457 g)) can kidney beans, drained 
  • (16 oz. (457 g)) can pinto beans, drained 


Step 1

Set the EGG for direct cooking at 350°F/176°C.

Step 2

Cook the bacon in the Big Green Egg Cast Iron Dutch Oven - Cast Iron until crispy. Remove the bacon. Cook the ground beef until browned. Add the onion and cook until tender.

Step 3

Add the ketchup, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, molasses, Ancho Chile & Coffee Seasoning, apple cider vinegar, salt, pepper, mustard, all the beans, and cooked bacon. Mix together.

Step 4

Bake for 1 hour. Remove from the EGG and enjoy!
